PART ONE - A. Foundation of Management and Organization Why are managers important? Organizations need their managerial skills and abilities in this uncertain, complex, and chaotic times. More over managerial skills and abilities are critical in getting things done. The quality of the employee/ supervisor relationship is the most important variable in productivity and loyalty. We understand that manager is someone who coordinates and oversees the work of other people so that organizational goal can be accomplished. Managers can be classifying into three levels: 1) First line manager; 2) Middle manager; and 3) Top manager. Manager works in an organization. What do managers do? Managers make sure work done effectively and efficiently. Managers role are Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling. For completing the information about Foundation of Management and Organization, please read The Power Point in Chapter 1A-Foundation of Management and Organization. By studying Foundation of Management and Organization, it is expected that you will be able to: explain why managers are important to organization. tell who managers are and where there work. describe the functions, roles, and skills of managers. ==================== PART ONE B - Management History Historical Background of Management Historical background of Management was started by ancient management (which are represented by Egipt, China, and Venetian, Adam Smith The Wealth of nation in 1776, and Industrial Revolution. In this chapter, we will also discuss Major Approaches to Management. If we talk about organization, we have to understand Scientific Management that was created by Fredrick Winslow Taylor, General Administrative Theory of Henry Fayol and Max Weber, The Quantitative Approach, Organizational Behavior (was advocated by Robert Owen, Hugo Munstenberg, Mary Parker Follett, and Chester Barnard), The Hawthorne Studies, The Contingency Approaches. For completing the information about Management History, please read The Power Point in Chapter 1B-Management History.
